Conversation series: Cuttlefish plays seaweed

Underwater critters make the best camouflage, and had it not for that strange feeling that something was watching you, this cuttlefish of Kaputian Beach in the Island Garden City of Samal would have gone unnoticed.

It’s one of those times when you stop and stare, and stare again, before finally making eye contact, while cuttlefish seems to be saying, “No, I’m not here.”

You flip to one side to get a better angle, but it’s keeping an eye out on you just as you are keeping an eye out for it… “You’re not supposed to see me,” it seems to say.

“Okay, okay. I know you already found me, now what?” you seem to hear it say amid the rumble of your bubbles. You reply in your head,”Pose for me, please.”

“And that’s all you want… for me to pose. Why not?”

“My camouflage’s really cool, huh?”

You nod in agreement and then leave. “Thanks, cut!”
